Find Relief From Osteoarthritis So You Can Do The Things You Love

Posted December 20, 2009 – 3:52 pm in: Arthritis

Arthritis pain can take the fun out of those things you love to do. Arthritis may affect almost any joint in your body and cause pain. It often affects the hips, neck, hands, knees and lower back. The condition usually gets worse over time and there is no known cure, although there are treatments that may help you through the day.

Researchers have not been able to pin down the actual cause of osteoarthritis, however the condition may have several contributing factors. Those factors can include aging, heredity, injury, weak muscles and being overweight.

The condition usually does not begin to be apparent until after age forty. It is more likely to develop in women than in men. Sports injuries are often one of the risk factors for developing osteoarthritis. In addition, a job that puts more stress on the joints is also a factor in developing the disease.

Often osteoarthritis becomes worse with age. The pain can become so severe that a person is no longer able to work or enjoy their favorite hobbies. The condition may develop to the point that a doctor encourages the person to have joint replacement surgery.

Several over the counter medications help to treat osteoarthritis. Acetaminophen is often helpful with pain but does not affect swelling. NASIDs help with both pain and swelling. Ibuprofen is one example of a NASID.

If over the counter medications are not treating the pain effectively, your doctor may prescribe Tramadol, or stronger pain killers such as Darvon or codeine. Finally he may prescribe cortisone shots.

One natural remedy is the use of glucosamine. This compound occurs naturally in the exoskeletons of insects and is used by the human body in joint repair. If you need a good source of glucosamine, Kirkland glucosamine is an affordable yet very good product used by many people.

Once you find the right treatment for your osteoarthritis, you may begin to feel much better. As you feel better, you may have time for some hobbies that you enjoyed before this condition robbed you of strength and even life.

It may be time to dust off the old dreadnought acoustic guitar and play a few tunes or get together with the old garage band again. Fingers that had lost their flexibility may once again be nimble enough to play like a young rock star.

Maybe, instead, you want to pull out the old PS2. If you can find the ps2 transformers, you can show the grandkids how a video game should be played. Your once again nimble fingers will let you fine tune your game while they are stuck in school.
